Ira Pearlstein,
Found Object Art/
Low Tide Art
Artist’s Statement:
Picasso harvested some pretty ordinary junk from the streets of Paris more than a century ago and turned it into stuff we still find pretty wonderful. I was entranced to discover his sculptures at MOMA in January of 2016. Seeing his work there changed my life. Really.
Hardly a Picasso, but inspired by him, for the past nearly four years I’ve been hauling home old junk from the streets, salvage yards and especially from the shores of Brooklyn, most often at low tide, when the eternally eroding old dump at Dead Horse Bay yields its treasures.
My mind and hands work from the totally abstract to the hesitantly representational. The pieces are assembled using wire I find at construction sites, and tubes of quick drying glue.
I have a blast collecting my ‘supplies’ and the stuff is tremendously enjoyable to put together. I hope you like the results.
