Artist's Statement:
After an artistic hiatus of approximately 60 years, in which I had not taken up either a paint brush or drawing implement, I happened to be passing by the Art Student's League on West 57th Street just as an acquaintance from a long time ago Tai Chi class was coming out of the building. A short time after that serendipitous meeting, some 5 years ago, I began taking life drawing and painting classes at the League, and continue to do so. While it can be challenging to strive toward developing complex new skill sets so late in life, studying painting and drawing is also an opportunity to learn to see more deeply, and this, once the critical voice is stilled, is, in and of itself, immensely satisfying. If, beyond this, my work is also sometimes able to communicate something of the joy of seeing, so much the better.
